Welcome
to the first newsletter!
I was waiting until I got 100
subscribers before I put out the first
newsletter, which is why some of you have been
waiting for months. So welcome! I'll try to
put out the newsletter monthly from now on.
Our 100th subscriber is
passcare who wins, oh, I don't know, how
about five bucks? Passcare, write to me
to claim your prize. Now, I counted myself as
the first subscriber, but some of you might
think that I shouldn't count myself and that I
should count only other people as real
subscribers. If I did it that way then passcare
would be our 99th subscriber and the
100th would be writezap. Oh, I can just
see writezap pulling his/hair out right now!
Well, tell you what writezap, if passcare
doesn't claim his/her prize within one week,
then it goes to you.
Oh, I guess I should also give a five-dollar
prize to the first subscriber.
That would be you, felipeii! Just
write to me to claim your prize. The runner-up
for this one is texasblondie.
So why is the newsletter called Exploding
Buffalo Surprise? I dunno, can you think of
a better name? Send me your ideas. If I like
your idea and use it then maybe you'll win a
prize.
Contest:
Win $50 in free
chips
So
now the other 95 of you are probably steaming
because you didn't win nothin'. Okay, okay, keep
your pants on. Here's a contest that
everyone can enter. Every month I'll pick
a random winner who will get $50 in free
chips at Casino.net. There's no catch at all
-- this isn't a match bonus where you have to
make a deposit, you get the free chips even if
there's zero dollars in your account before you
win. And with just over 100 subscribers to this
newsletter your chances of winning are better
than just about any other contest. Can you name
another contest that gives you a better chance
of winning? Didn't think so. Best of all, it's
free to enter.
Here's how to enter:
- Sign up for a free account at Casino.net
if you don't already have one.
- Go to the blackjack table and take a
picture of the screen.
- Send me the picture.
That's it! When I put out the next newsletter
I'll pick someone to get the $50 in chips. It
could be you.
Now you might be thinking, "Hey! I don't have
a digital camera! How the heck do I take a
picture of the screen?" Not to worry, Windows
lets you take a picture of the screen just by
pressing the Print Screen key on the
keyboard. Bet you didn't know that, huh? From
there just paste the picture into the
Paint program, save as Monochrome, and
email me the file. Here are detailed
instructions if that went too fast for
you.
Some quick
rules: This contest is open to current
newsletter subscribers only! That's a reward
to all of you for being the first people to sign
up -- the general public doesn't get a chance to
win. One entry per person, void where
prohibited, you must be old enough to gamble
legally in your jurisdiction, contest may be
discontinued without notice, you disavow us of
any liability, no purchase necessary, batteries
not included.

Exposing the
Gambler's Fallacy
Let's
say you're watching a roulette game, and red has
just come up nine times in a row! Should you bet
on red or black? The answer is that it doesn't
matter -- each is equally likely. Many people
think that black is more likely because it's
"due", but it's not. No event is ever due. Read
our new article to see why: Exposing
the Gambler's Fallacy

Casino News:
NetGaming
cheats in free-play mode
Most online casinos have a free-play
mode where you can try their games to see if you
like them. At reputable casinos the free-play
games work just like the pay-to-play games. But
sleazy casinos let you win in free-play mode to
sucker you into playing for real money. One such
casino is NetGaming which was recently
busted by the Wizard
of Odds for rigging its free-play games.
NetGaming uses Elka System / Oyster Gaming
software so the Wizard (and we) recommend you
avoid those casinos as well.
Not
to beat a dead horse, but this is why we've
recommended Casino.net
for years -- they're reputable and 100%
scandal-free. I'll be honest, I don't have time
to personally evaluate each of the hundreds of
casinos on the net and determine whether they're
decent and fair. Instead I just spent some time
finding a really excellent, honest casino, and
that's the one I recommend.

News: Jennifer
Lopez' mom wins jackpot in Las Vegas
Is there anything more annoying than an
already-rich person winning a jackpot? That's
what happened in April, when Jennifer Lopez' mom
hit a $2.4 million jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune
slot machine at the Borgata in Atlantic City.

Vegas
News: Brit bets
life savings on one roulette spin
In April a Brit bet his $135,000 life
savings on one roulette spin at the Plaza in
downtown Las Vegas. This bet has a 47.4% chance
of winning and a 52.6% chance of losing.
Fortunately for him, he won. But it's still too
bad he didn't seek better odds elsewhere.
Single-zero roulette is available at the
Bellagio, Mirage, Aladdin, and Paris, which
makes the chances 48.6% to 51.4%. What's more,
on those wheels you get half your bet back on
even-money bets if the ball lands in zero, so he
could have walked away with $67,500 even if he
lost on zero. Or he could have played Baccarat
which would have given him a 50.7% chance of
winning, though he would have won only $128,000
after paying the 5% commission on winning banker
bets. He also could have used our half-bankroll
system and made two bets instead of
one, cutting his risk in half. But whatever, he
won, and everyone's happy for him. (more

Fun site
of the month: Send
Brian to Vegas
Some guy named Brian started a website
where people could send him donations so he can
go to Vegas. Why? Because he wants to go to
Vegas. Nothing special, he just figures that it
can't hurt to ask. We have to admire his
chutzpah, which is a Yiddish word meaning
"website design skills". His thermometer bar
shows various options for him depending on how
much money he makes, with the pinnacle being
"The Ultimate Trip -- Paris Las Vegas, fine
dining, awesome clubs, lots of gambling!", and
the lowest tier being "Crappy downtown motel,
probably get murdered." So far he's raised
$65.70. We sent a dollar. SendBrianToVegas.com
Advertiser
of the month: LottoLuck
Let me get something out of the way
first: I don't make any more money whether
you play at LottoLuck or not. They pay me by the
month rather than giving me a commission, so you
can consider this review fairly unbiased. (Now,
Casino.net
is another story, since I get a commission from
them. You should play there as much as
possible.)
LottoLuck has two games: Megabucks,
which is like a traditional lotto, and PickIt,
which is like roulette on steroids. There's no
software to download, the games play right in
your browser, and load really fast. Megabucks
even works with Mac browsers, but PickIt is
Windows only. I made a deposit with NETeller
and the process couldn't have been easier: I
just clicked My Account, then Deposit, then
entered in my NETeller ID's and the amount I
wanted to deposit. That's it. Although LottoLuck
accepts credit cards your bank almost certainly
won't authorize the transaction, so don't waste
your time trying.
Megabucks is like a traditional
lottery. You pick six numbers and a bonus
ball from 1-49. Each ticket can have 1-10 rows,
and each row costs $1 to play. The balls are
drawn every Friday. Match all six balls and you
win $2 million. Match the bonus ball as well and
you win another $3 million, for a total of $5
million. The odds of matching the six are 1 in
14 million and the odds of matching the six
and the bonus ball are 1 in 600
million.
There are a couple of smaller jackpots, too.
Match five numbers plus the bonus ball and win a
portion of all the entries (currently a $42,477
prize), or match five balls without the bonus
ball, which currently pays $1262.
PickIt
is like roulette on speed. Or you can
consider it a cross between roulette and keno.
There's a grid of 30 numbers (1-30) arranged in
3 columns by 10 rows. Of these 30 numbers 10 are
red, 10 are yellow, and 10 are blue. Six balls
are drawn for every game, and new games happen
every 60 seconds like clockwork. And check this
out: everyone all over the world plays against
the same set of balls, so you know the game is
fair. (I got on the phone with a friend in a
completely different time zone and we verified
that we were both seeing the same exact balls
being picked.)
You can bet on even/odd, colors, individual
numbers, a range for the total of the numbers,
and some other special bets. The minimum bet is
a bank-breaking ten cents! Most of the bets
return less than American roulette (which pays
out 94.74%), but there are a few that pay
better. For gambling newbies, return is
the ratio of money won to money wagered. For
example, in a game where the odds are that
you'll win 90 cents for every $1.00 you bet on
average, the return is 90%. Here's a summary of
the best bets:
- Color Bets. These bets return 90
to 93%, with the best one being Three of the
Same Color.
- Totals Bets. The totals bets
return 90 to 95.24% with the best being 21-91
or 95-165. These are also very low risk bets
since they're even-money bets, and your
chances of winning are 1 in 2.1, so you'll
win almost every other round. The biggest
jackpot is 156-165 which pays out 6000x the
bet, though it the return is only
90.94%.
- Pick X Numbers. The best of these
is Pick 1 at 95%, though Pick 2 and Pick 3
aren't far behind at 94.25 and 94.92%
respectively.
- Lotto. This play is for the
progressive jackpot so the return depends on
how high the meter is. At its current level
($989) the return is only 90.54%. At $1129
the return is 95%, and at $1285 the return is
100%. (That ought to happen within about two
weeks.) But there's a trick to get better
odds, by using European currency.
The Euro Connection. By betting in
Euros you can get much better odds on the PickIt
Lotto. Here's how it works: When you open a
LottoLuck account you've actually opened
two different accounts, one in U.S.
dollars and one in Euros. Let's say you deposit
$50, which goes into your U.S. account. Now you
just go to My Account > Transfer Funds
and you can transfer any portion of that $50 to
your Euro account. (LottoLuck does the currency
conversion for you automatically, of
course.)
So why would you want to play on your Euro
account? Because there are lots more players on
the Euro side, and they push the jackpot up
faster. Remember that $989 jackpot for the
PickIt Lotto? On the Euro side it's EUR $1283.
And at that level the return is 99.95%! That's a
better return than blackjack, or any
casino game for that matter. By the time you
read this the return will likely be over 100%,
if someone doesn't hit it first. And while it
typically takes a few weeks for the jackpot to
exceed 100% on the U.S. side, on the Euro side
it happens every few days.
Summary. With the low minimums, the
decent payouts, and the fact that there's a
60-second break between each game, it's possible
to make your money last a really long time. In
fact, if you had a $103 bankroll and wanted to
use the Martingale
betting system on 21-91 starting at a $0.10
bet, your chances of being ahead after one hour
of play would be more than 94%. At most casinos
you can't play the Martingale no matter how big
your bankroll is because of low table limits,
but Lotto Luck lets you bet between ten cents to
$1000 a round. We've never seen a range this
large at any other wagering site. Plus, PickIt
is a lot of fun, and the graphics and user
interface are outstanding.

How they could
improve
|
PickIt: Use secure server for
logins, increase payouts, have more
midrange jackpots, allow
auto-cancellation of series bet if
jackpot is hit, show the total of all
balls somewhere on the screen, allow
player to repeat previous bets for a
new game (rather than having to commit
to playing X games into the future),
add Macintosh compatibility.
Megabucks: Add paytable to the
"How to Play" section of the
website.
